An oceanarium in Chicago, Illinois. It was opened on May 30, 1930. The aquarium features over 25,000 fish specimens and was at one time the largest indoor aquarium in the world. The Shedd Aquarium was also the first onshore aquarium with a permanent collection of fish living in seawater, as well as one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world. It contains huge whales, sharks, penguins, crocodiles, octopuses and a wide variety of fish. In addition to marine life, the Shedd Aquarium is home to iguanas, snakes, birds, otters, and seals.
