Most of the heat escapes through the walls and roofs of our homes. With energy bills soaring, some people have struggled to save by turning off lights more often

Even switching provider is a good idea, but not everyone recognizes that the lack of insulation in their homes can, after all, significantly affect their bills.

Closed-cell spray foam is produced by mixing two chemicals.

Each chemical moves through a separate hose and is mixed together when they are sprayed from the gun at a pressure of about 1100-1200 psi.

Chemicals need to be heated to 130 degrees, so a heating cable also runs next to the hoses. All three are wrapped in a sleeve. After application, the foam will expand from 30 to 60 times relative to the volume of fluid

Foam comes in two types that relate to the cellular structure

Closed-cell foam — it is a dense foam and provides the greatest resistance

Open cell foam — it is a light, soft foam that can expand significantly during application.

Closed-cell spray foam outperforms fiberglass, mineral wool, and any other readily available product on the market.

The denser the foam, the greater the R value per inch. I average one inch 2 pounds.

Fully cured closed-cell foam will work at R-6.8. This means that a cavity in a 2×6 wall filled with 5-inch foam will allow an impressive R-34 ratio, almost double the R value that can be achieved

with fiberglass.
