About the Role:
The Truck and/or Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the company's fleet of trucks and trailers to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel engines, hydraulics, and trailer systems, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and preventive services on trucks and trailers, including oil changes, brake repairs, tire rotations, and system inspections; Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in trucks and trailers; Overhaul and replace engines, transmissions, and other major components as necessary.
Inspections and Diagnostics: Conduct thorough inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential safety hazards; Use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with company policies and DOT regulations; Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Equipment and Tools: Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to perform repairs efficiently and safely; Keep the work area organized, clean, and equipped with necessary tools and supplies.
Collaboration: Communicate with the dispatch and operations teams regarding the status of vehicles and timelines for repairs; Provide guidance to less-experienced mechanics or apprentices as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics preferred.
Experience: 2+ years of experience as a truck or trailer mechanic, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
Certifications: certification in truck or trailer repair is a plus; CDL license is an advantage but not required.
Skills :
Proficient in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, air brake systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment (up to 50 lbs).
Comfortable working in various weather conditions and in a shop environment.
Ability to stand, crouch, and work in tight spaces for extended periods.
